M-9

A Pirates of the Death Fangs operator next to her recon and electronic warfare drone. The drone was designed in Plasticity and the operator sculpted in Nomad Sculpt, both printed in resin at 1/20 scale.

The scene

M-9 is a little scene from the Pirates of the Death Fangs, my sci-fi universe. The drone is an assistant for recon and electronic warfare, and it has the same character as all the pirates’ drones: curious, protective and chatty, but precise when it works. The bond between the operator and the drone is very close, as it is for every pirate and their vehicle: the drone is the other half of her team.

The drone

The drone was designed in Plasticity: a long body with a boxy head at the front, sensors on the nose and four legs split into three pieces each. I had also imported the operator into the file, in a lighter version, to check the proportions between the two.

The operator

The operator was sculpted in Nomad Sculpt, standing, with a cap, tactical vest, cargo trousers and combat boots.

Printing

The scene was printed on an Elegoo Saturn 4 Ultra with Elegoo Standard 8K Space Grey resin, 0.03 mm layer height, slicing in Lychee. All the drone parts fitted on a single plate, and the print took 1 hour and 53 minutes. The drone is split into pieces for assembly, and also because I had fun imagining it as if it were a real plastic kit.

The base

The base is round and was designed in Plasticity together with the scene, with room for the nameplate on the front. It was printed in FDM and was only meant to be a temporary pedestal, but in the end it stayed.

The scene stayed grey, and for me the work is finished as it is.
